There are a myriad of online classes available at  St. Jude the Apostle Cathedral | Saint Petersburg, FL.

The instructor Charmaine is just wonderful, inspiring the students how to navigate the books while embracing the devotional aspect to The Liturgy of the Hours/Divine Office.

Below are two upcoming Liturgy of the Hours classes as well as video archives of past courses.

McGrath Institute for Church Life

Liturgical Prayer: The Liturgy of the Hours Next Session: Feb 15, 2021. This is an intensive six week course. The course content, format, required texts, participation requirements, and time expectations are provided at the course descrption. One will also receive a certificate.

I just cannot wait to take this class!

Here is a portion of the class description:

In this course, students will become familiar with the basic structure and content of the Liturgy of the Hours, discuss significant theological themes which shape the Hours, consider key moments in the historical development of the Liturgy of the Hours, and evaluate the challenges and catechetical potential afforded by the Liturgy of the Hours.  Doing so will afford opportunity for students to discuss the practical dimensions of adopting the Liturgy of the Hours in pastoral settings, to develop a theology of liturgical prayer, and to build a framework for teaching and implementing liturgical prayer patterned on the Liturgy of the Hours.

St Thomas More House of Prayer

There will be a class on Feb 09, 2020.

I took this course last fall and truly enjoyed meeting the class colleagues and the instructor was very engaging and knowledgeable. This is a basic over view course on praying The Liturgy of the Hours.

Here is the description of the class:

Join us for a webinar on praying the Liturgy of the Hours!

This two hour webinar will give participants an introduction to the public and communal prayer of the Catholic Church, also known as the Liturgy of the Hours. In the first part of this webinar we will give a brief overview of the Church’s teaching on the Liturgy of the Hours. The second part will consist of an introduction to the basic components of the prayer books along with a practical guide for praying the various hours of the day. Lastly, we will end with time for Q&A.

If you have any questions, please e-mail us at info@liturgyofthehours.org

Pictured on this blog post is the first color coded system I created with ribbons and dots since the ribbons that come with the 4 volume set of The Litrugy of the Hours books were not working for me (so much page flipping LOL).

The stunning Chaplet of  Joseph Chaplet was handcrafted by the Cloistered Carmelite Nuns of the Sisters of Carmel.

And, the gorgeous book cover was designed and stitched by The Daughters of Mary.

The book covers will fit

  • Missal (be sure to follow ordering instructions on their website)
  • 4 volume Liturgy of the Hours set
  • Little Office of BVM
  • Your cherished prayer books.

The detail of both of these items is breathtaking.

As a side note:

Someone told me over Christmas, lamenting that purchased gifts had not yet arrived, and the gifts that had arrived on time were below expectations, “during the pandemic you just don’t know what you will get when shopping online and if it will even arrive on time for Christmas.”

I responded, “unless it’s from the Sisters of Carmel and The Daughters of Mary!” And then received this response “and you get a prayer along with your order” and I responded, “yes one does, very powerful prayers at that from the Sisters!”
